Overview

Some trips show you a place. This one shows you a continent.

Over twelve days, you’ll travel through seven Western states and nine of the most remarkable protected landscapes in North America. You’ll stand at the edge of Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring, watch the Tetons rise above Jackson Lake, walk beneath sandstone arches in Utah, and end your journey on the Pacific Coast in San Francisco.

This is not a checklist tour. The pace is built to let each place register, with cultural stops, wildlife viewing, and unhurried evenings woven between the headline destinations. A traditional Navajo dinner. A soak in the world’s largest natural hot springs pool. A sunset over Horseshoe Bend.

A portion of every booking supports the conservation organizations and Indigenous communities whose stewardship makes these landscapes possible to visit.

Daily Schedule

Daily Itinerary Day 1 | Touchdown in Salt Lake City

Your journey begins where the mountains meet the high desert. Fly into Salt Lake City via San Francisco, where your guide will be waiting. Settle into your hotel, shake off the travel, and rest up. Tomorrow, the West opens up.

Hotel: SpringHill Suites by Marriott or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 2 | A Salt Lake, A Sky Mirror, And A Hangar Full Of History

Start in the heart of Salt Lake City at Temple Square, then head north to the Great Salt Lake, North America's largest inland sea. On still days the surface vanishes into the sky and the horizon disappears. Watch for wild bison along the shoreline. They've been here longer than the city has.

In the afternoon, step inside the Hill Aerospace Museum, where ninety retired military aircraft sit silent on the hangar floor. Bombers. Fighter jets. Cold War survivors. Walk underneath them and try to grasp the scale.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: SpringHill Suites by Marriott or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 3 | North To The Wild

Early start. The road north takes you across Idaho's open grasslands, past cattle country and grain silos and skies so wide they don't seem to end. Stop at Idaho Falls to see the longest man-made waterfall in the country, a wall of white water cutting through downtown.

By afternoon you'll roll into West Yellowstone, the frontier town that guards the park's western gate. Tomorrow, the wild.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: Yellowstone Lodge West Yellowstone or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 4 | Inside Yellowstone

This is the day you came for.

You'll stand on the boardwalk at Old Faithful and feel the ground hum before it erupts, a column of boiling water shot straight into the sky. You'll walk above Grand Prismatic Spring, where the water glows electric blue at the center and bleeds outward through bands of orange and gold so vivid they look painted on. You'll pass mud pots that gurgle like they're alive and steam vents that hiss out of bare earth.

Then you'll drive the Grand Loop, scanning for bison herds in the meadows and elk along the tree line. With luck, a grizzly. With more luck, a wolf.

This is Yellowstone. The first national park ever created, anywhere in the world. You're standing on the original.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: Yellowstone Lodge West Yellowstone or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 5 | The Tetons Rise

Head south and watch the horizon change. The Teton Range erupts from the valley floor without warning, ten thousand vertical feet of granite and snow with no foothills to soften the blow. There's a reason photographers spend lifetimes here.

Stop at Jackson Lake and Jenny Lake, scan the shoreline for moose, and walk where Ansel Adams once set up his camera at the Snake River Overlook. The shot he took there in 1942 hangs in museums. The view hasn't changed.

End the day in Jackson, a real Western town with elk-antler arches at the corners of the town square.

Optional: Scenic boat tour on Jackson Lake. Horseback ride through Yellowstone National Forest.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: The Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 6 | Elk Country And Steaming Water

Roll out of Jackson and through the National Elk Refuge, where one of the largest elk herds on the continent winters every year. Established in 1912, this stretch of protected ground exists because someone, more than a century ago, decided these animals were worth saving.

In the afternoon, you'll trade the saddle of the road for the warm pull of mineral water. Sink into natural hot springs heated between 102 and 112 degrees by the earth itself. Look up at the sky. Don't move for an hour.

Arrive in Salt Lake City by evening.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: Sheraton Salt Lake City or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 7 | Into Red Rock Country

Today the landscape changes completely. Drive south into Utah's high desert and watch the green of the mountains fade into the rust and ochre of the canyon country.

Arches National Park doesn't ease you in. Sandstone fins, balanced rocks, and more than two thousand natural arches sculpted by millions of years of wind and water. Delicate Arch alone is worth the trip.

Then Canyonlands, where the Colorado and Green Rivers have carved a vast, layered maze into the earth. End the day at Dead Horse Point, two thousand feet above the river, where the Colorado bends through the canyon below in a sweep that doesn't feel real until you see it.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: Best Western or Holiday Inn Express & Suites

Daily Itinerary Day 8 | Monument Valley And A Night With The Navajo

Morning at Goosenecks State Park, where the San Juan River winds through three deep S-curves cut into solid rock over millions of years. From the overlook you can see the entire pattern at once, like a snake captured in stone.

Then Monument Valley. The buttes here are familiar from a hundred Western films, but no movie prepares you for the real thing. Red sandstone giants rising from the desert floor, half a mile tall, scattered across the horizon. This land belongs to the Navajo Nation, and they have been its stewards for centuries.

Tonight, share a traditional Navajo meal. Fry bread, slow-cooked stew, stories. Then watch the cultural performance of dance, flute, and drum under an open sky. This is one of the moments people remember years later.

Optional: Guided Antelope Canyon tour and Horseshoe Bend sunset photography.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch, traditional Navajo dinner. Hotel: La Quinta Inn & Suites Page or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 9 | Blue Water, Red Rock, Bright Lights

Begin at Lake Powell, where impossibly blue water laps against cliffs of impossibly red stone. The contrast feels almost wrong, like nature got the color wheel backwards.

Continue to Zion National Park. Drive through the heart of the canyon with thousand-foot vermillion walls rising on either side, the Virgin River cutting calmly along the floor. Crane your neck. You won't be able to take it all in.

Then a complete reset. By nightfall you'll be in Las Vegas. Trade canyon walls for neon, silence for the slot-machine hum. Walk the Strip. Eat well. The evening is yours.

Optional: Show at The Sphere.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: New York-New York Hotel & Casino or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 10 | Las Vegas To The Pacific

Leave the desert behind. Cross into California and roll into Los Angeles for a stop at the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Griffith Observatory, where the city spreads below you in every direction.

Then west, all the way west, until you hit the coast. By evening you'll be in Santa Barbara, where the air smells like salt and the palm trees lean in the wind off the Pacific. This is the soft landing the trip earns you.

Meals: Breakfast. Hotel: SpringHill Suites Bakersfield or Fresno or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 11 | Yosemite, Then The Bay

After breakfast, we will explore Yosemite, known for its beautiful glacial landscapes and granite cliffs. We will visit a massive granite monolith called El Capitan, known most for its rock climbing opportunities. Another cliff we will visit is Half dome, with its name coming from its unique shape. In the evening we start our drive towards San Francisco and stop for an overnight in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch. Hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Oakland Downtown or similar

Daily Itinerary Day 12 | The City By The Bay

One last morning. Drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, that impossible orange span hanging in the fog. Walk down Lombard Street's famous switchback. Eat one last meal at Fisherman's Wharf with sea lions barking somewhere out of sight.

Then to the airport. Twelve days. Seven states. Nine parks. One coast to the other.

You'll come home different. That's the point.

Meals: Breakfast

Layered clothing for variable weather (Yellowstone can be cold even in summer), sturdy walking shoes or light hiking boots, sun protection, a daypack for hikes, and a reusable water bottle. We'll send a detailed packing list after you book.

What about the hot springs day?

Bring your own swimsuit, towel, and slippers for the hot springs experience. Lockers and changing rooms are provided.

Do I need any special documents?

US travelers need a government-issued ID. International travelers need a valid passport and any required visas for entering the United States. Check current visa requirements for your country well in advance of booking.

Yes. We strongly recommend it. Insurance protects against trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and lost luggage. The cost is usually a small percentage of your total trip investment for significant peace of mind.
